Myself and my wife both explained to the people of this clinic that this was not a routine office call and did not budget for a big vet bill but offered to pay it in full the following Friday even though they were not authorized to treat the cat or had the authority to detain the cat.
That afternoon my wife and Daughter showed up at this clinic to bring the cat home.
They made my daughter and wife wait for a long period of time as they lead them to believe they were bringing the cat out. The truth is they had no intention of bringing the cat out. My wife called me at home and felt they were ignoring her and playing a waiting game. When they finally tended to my family they insisted that my wife and daughter pay the unreasonable fee of approx. 250 dollars before they would release the cat.
My daughter suffers from severe anxiety disorders and was unable to complete conventional schooling and had to be home bound schooled. This cat was used as a therapy animal for my daughter who is very despondent over the theft of her cat..
My Daughter`s cat was having difficulty breathing.. I thought it was choking on some food or something he had put in his mouth and it was obstructing his air way.
I rushed him to this clinic and the vet determined that it was an infection which may have been caused by a bite from another animal and had caused a gland his throat to swell and was obstructing his airway, The vet told me he was going to keep my Daughters cat for an indefinite period of time. I felt the vet could have sold me the antibiotic and we take him home where he could receive 24\7 care from my family not warehoused in a cage for an indefinite period of time {Knowing that there would be no one there on a Sunday) but the vet refused.
We were never updated on the status of the cat and they refused to let my Daughter and wife examine my daughters cat.
I brought the cat to this clinic on a Saturday and by Monday had still heard nothing by the vet. clinic. At approx. 9 am. On Monday. I contacted the clinic to arrange to pick up my daughters cat. The girl on the phone was very evasive. She said, The cat appeared to be doing fine but that I would have to call back at noon. For no apparent reason. I felt the staff at this clinic was very evasive and under minding.
When I spoke to the Lady at the front desk she exclaimed that if I dont here from the clinic the next day to assume that nothing has changed. Basically, telling me not to call them, they would call me.
My understanding at this point is that this clinic will euthanize my daughters cat before they will release the cat to us without paying an absurd amount of money ..
I have used this vet for for more than 20 years for my Dogs and Horses and have always had great experience.
I did check the North Carolina statues for vets putting liens on animals, mainly pets for the sole purpose to obtain payment for medical payments and I discovered that it is not permitted in the State of North Carolina, Which means this is an illegal practice which could be deemed as theft!
We were told that the cat would not be allowed to be released from the clinic until the money was paid in full and we would be charged 40 dollars a day for every day the cat remains at the clinic.. by Friday The bill will exceed 400 dollars which we wont be able to afford.
Absolutely LOVE Dr. Holt ... I had taken one of my dogs to another vet but when she was having difficulty with thunderstorms I switched to Dr. Holt so we could get her some medicine. He is extremely reasonably priced and always treats the animals' as if they are his own. Love him dearly!
Dr Holt and staff are the greatest. Absolutely love this place
